The Shellharbour Menís Shed is a fully equipped workshop where skilled and unskilled men can meet, swap yarns and work together on community projects. A shed has held an important place in Australian culture for many generations. It can be a place to share experiences and skills; a place to go and socialise. Many men after retiring can feel let down, and as a result, health problems may develop. Many retirees have lost their shed or garden in which to potter. In 2004 Shellharbour City Councilís Community Services Department identified that there was a need to have a program to improve menís health and self esteem in the community. Good health is based on many factors including self esteem, the feeling of productivity and a value to society. So the seeds of a Menís Shed were born. A venue was found, and with donations of woodworking machinery and tools, timber, the shed was off and running. It is a place where social relationships and activities take place.
